Introduction Post: A Little About Myself
Hello, class!
My name is Jewel Holiday. I am in the last stretch of my senior year here at the University of South Florida. In the spring of 2021, I graduated from the College of Central Florida with my associate's degree and then transferred to USF in the fall. My current major is information science with a concentration in web development technologies. I am originally from Ocala, FL. This is where most of my family still resides. I, however, currently live in Lutz, FL.
My work history thus far has mostly been retail oriented. I'm looking forward to entering the information field once I graduate. Ideally, I would like to focus on either information architecture or information policy but I am pretty flexible with my career path.
I usually spend my free time watching movies. I try to go to the theater at least once a month. I enjoy watching movie recaps and breakdown videos on YouTube. Also, I like to look at box office numbers to see what movies are doing well and which ones aren’t. I can appreciate movies of all varieties, but my current favorite is the superhero genre, especially those that contribute to the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
I also enjoy reading and writing. I mainly write poetry and have dabbled in creating short stories. In the future, I would like to publish a book of my work. My favorite poem is Still I Rise by Maya Angelou. Last September, I had the phrase “still I rise” tattooed on the inside of my right arm.
Regarding the subject of tattoos, I am a huge fan of them and piercings. I currently have eleven tattoos and ten piercings. My most recent piercing is a helix on my left ear. I had it done on New Year's Eve as my last big decision of 2022. My most recent tattoos were done in January on Friday the 13th. The shop I frequent was offering flash tattoo deals. I went and got four different ones done.
My most used social media app is Instagram. I enjoy Instagram because I feel like sometimes I can express myself better in pictures than using words. Also, on my Instagram, I don’t follow/have a lot of followers that I know in real life. This is beneficial for me because I don’t compare myself or my life to them. Also, I feel more open to posting whatever I like. In contrast, on my Facebook account, most of my friends on there are family, friends, and old work/school acquaintances. Whenever I use that app I find that I filter myself more.
While this is not my first time creating a blog, I still would myself a beginner when it comes to utilizing and traversing through them. I have made other blogs for mainly high school and some college assignments. (I would share the links if I still had them because I am sure that they would be interesting to look at.) I have very little experience reading blogs outside of doing so for school assignments. The only other occasion where I would navigate through one is for video game walkthroughs and breakdowns. To me, the main draw of blogs is how personal they can be. I liken them to digital journals in some cases. However, blogs are not always reliable sources of information. It has been drilled in me from school to avoid using blogs as pools of information. This is most likely why I have little experience using them.
Thanks for visiting my blog. I’m wishing everyone a great semester!

Hey Jewel,
ReplyDeleteIt's great to have you in class. You got your latest tattoos on my Mom's birthday. I have a number as well, all done after someone close to me has died or at the cusp of a big life change. I'm impressed by anyone who can tolerate piercing. I only have my ears pierced and the last one of those was done in 1982.
